I was trying to dig out my Summer 2014 blog but I can't find it. Says a lot about my labeling system. Looks like another cataloging is in order, tsk.
Anyway it doesn't matter. Unlike last summer, this summer there is a lot of anticipation. First the apples, next the lemons. We finally got lemons. I can't tell you how long this battle was fought. Looks like the garden is slowing turning into a fruit orchard. Did you see ant on lemons? Our lemon tree proves that you don't need to be sweet to attract ants.
Due to last year's great cherry harvest lost, this year uncle up his cherry security. Instead of netting just the tree, because last year the birds hooked themselves on the net and graze through the net, this year he net the whole area to create a perimeter.
Next he erected an owl lookout. Few year ago he tried fake rubber snakes and the birds figured out the snakes don't move. So now, uncle put up an owl on a swaying pedestal with motion sensor so sensitive, it even hooted when the trees sway to the wind. It's seemed really overboard but hey, uncle said this year's cherry harvest is easily 5kg. Go uncle and his all seeing owl!
